CF HAWN

G’Odd left Portland, Oregon and his vast multi-media studio-basement with dreams of immersing himself in a true rap scene, and dedicating himself to improving his rap skills. Dallas, Texas seemed promising enough, though when he arrived in the neighborhood called “Greedy Grove”, he found himself a ghost, receiving only suspicious stares, hostile words, and an overall sense of contempt. In art, he imagined instead this area would transform into a place called CF Hawn and the studio would become a beacon of hip-hop themed hope in a neighborhood full of misery. He began flying the freak flag in dramatic fashion, daring the locals to complain. Finally, a couple of the old heads began embracing him and the ice thawed until one day, while chasing someone down the street with a baseball bat, as one does in occasionally in such places, he met a local rapper named Bone. CF Hawn became a reality, the banner flew, and wealth of rappers emerged from the shadows of an apartment complex called Bella Vida. G’Odd sent word to Boxhead Walker, his partner in the Fire Brigade, who crossed oceans to join him. The Fire Brigade, Yung Bone the G, Da Monnie, and a host of others created a series of collaboration songs featured on the Bella Vida compilations. However, far too soon, Greedy Grove fell into worse chaos and violence. The “Greedy” part didn’t sound so funny anymore. G’Odd got shot, Boxhead swore the apartments off, and the rest returned to their wicked ways. This archive is the result of these labors, these tales from the Grove… . A lot of stories get told (and mis-told) in the world of underground music. Sometimes a beautiful scene vanishes as suddenly as it appears. Sometimes, a few months is meant to echo for years to come. Time will tell what is the case for CF Hawn.
